‘Japan Centre’ is mainly a retailer of Japanese foods plus a self-service food mall. There are four premises in London : Panton Street, by Leicester Square, (Flagship store – mostly in basement ), Shaftesbury Avenue (mainly ceramics plus a cafe – all on 1st floor), Westfields shopping mall in Stratford-East London, and Westfields shopping mall in Shepherds Bush-West London (opened 14 July 2018)- [locations marked on map here].
The main Flagship store in Panton Street opened in September 2017. For those not familiar with Japanese food it’s a good opportunity to learn, buy – and dine [it’s ok to slurp those noodles!] Diners are provided with a small wi-fi device which vibrates and flashes when their food order is ready for collection – very useful.
The kitchens are open so the chefs can be seen preparing the food – not least carving the fish for the sushi. Genuine – and expensive – green Wasabi is for sale – no “fake” green-died horse-radish here! The huge range of Saki is instructive. Though in a basement the place is bright with plenty of daylight. Staff and customers are virtually entirely Japanese – everyone is made welcome. Good vibes. ‘Arigato’ to Japan Centre.
